Claire's Riding Club Diary

August 2007

Day one: I gave Fuchsia 25mls before I left for camp. She is normally very flighty away from home and neighs all the time and then box walks for the whole camp. We arrived; she looked around and walked into her stable calmly. I was amazed. The dressage was the first lesson, I gave her another shot of Oxyshot and went into a massive field with a group of horses. Usually Fuchsia would be looking around, not concentrating and nappy, but none of it. I had the best dressage lesson ever. She then happily ate her hay in her stable whilst I made new friends.

Day Two: I shot Fuchsia with Oxyshot 30 minutes before the show jumping lesson. I expected her to be behind the leg and lazy as normal but she was full of energy, loving every minute and great to ride.

Day Three: Another shot before Cross Country; now this I was worried about even with Oxyshot. Normally, Fuchsia approaches Cross Country jumps slowly and then fly’s really high in the air. I have tried pairs to make her bolder, but still I doubted her. The trainer did not know my horse, and put me at the front of the group, and I was really worried. But no, once again she was listening, in front of the leg and flying over every single jump with the group following, in fact I even had to half halt her, it was just brilliant.

In conclusion, Oxyshot kept my horse fresh and calm which meant I had a great time with friends; in fact I had a better holiday than when I went to Majorca!
